This month we are featuring Dr. Glen Whitehead as the September 2019 Affiliate of the Month!   Glen Whitehead is a new music trumpet artist, improviser and sound artist working in classical, jazz, and contemporary music settings, electro-acoustic composition, and interdisciplinary projects across the arts. His professional background spans a wide body of work over two decades as principal trumpet in professional orchestras, professional brass quintets, jazz ensembles, free improvisation and electronic music groups, and as an electric bassist, vocalist, lyricist and song-writer in the progressive rock world. He is an Associate Professor of Music and LAS Co-Director of the Bachelor of InnovationTM at the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs (UCCS) and won the Innovations in Teaching with Technology award at UCCS and the Big Idea Award with Peak FreQuency in 2016 from the Pikes Peak Arts Council.  He is the Artistic Director of the Peak FreQuency Creative Arts, Director of Performance of the environmental arts organization, EcoSono (http://www.ecosono.org), and he holds the Principal Trumpet chair in the Chamber Orchestra of the Springs.

Most recently, Glen's work includes being featured as a performer and composer in the SoundON Festival (2016), as a soloist with the Colorado Springs Brass Ensemble (2015), was an Artist in Residence at the Centro Mexicano para la Mùsica y las Artes Sonoras in Morelia, Mexico (2015), and collaborations with the Ormao Dance Company in an installation Sanctuary of Moments at the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center (2014), Resistance and Rebellion (2014) with folk artist Tim Eriksen (winner of a Peak Arts award), Boundless Breath (2013). In 2015 he gave the world premiere of Matthew Burtner's Ecoacoustic Concerto (Eagle Rock) with Cuong Vu. He was Artist in Residence at the 2014 Sonic Landscapes Festival at CSU Fullerton, and collaborated with Pandit Sanjoy Bandopadhyay of Kolkata, India (2013). In 2013 he performed the world premiere of the Hennessy Concerto - for trumpet and orchestra by film composer Sean Hennessy. His duo Psychoangelo with composer / visual artist Michael Theodore of CU Boulder received critical acclaim for their CD release "Panauromni" on Innova Records (listed on the TOP 10 releases of the year by Chicago Time Out). Currently, he is also a member of Colorado's highly acclaimed free improvisation ensemble the Bottesini Project. Glen studied performance at the New England Conservatory of Music (BMus and M.A.) and, and M.A. and D.M.A from the University of California, San Diego - professors include Timothy Morrison, Edwin Harkins, Anthony Davis and George Lewis.
